Kyomu Senki is made up mainly of four series: "The Tiger of 5000 Light Years" serialized in 1980-82. "Kyomu Senshi Miroku" and "Jaki-oh Bakuretsu," both of which started serialization in 1987, just a few months apart. Lastly, "Skull Killer Jaki-oh," a mech series set in the 20th century that originally started in 1990.

Along with the four main series, it also includes four short stories: "New Rashoumon," "Ninja Arts at Honnou Temple: The Black Magic of Koji Kashin," "The Strange Living Dimension, Dogura," and "The Dogura War Chronicles."

An bonus chapter included with the final volume of Getter Robo Āḥ. Dr. Hell discovers a biomechanical lifeform known as "Kedora" in the depths of Bardos Island, and realises that he can use it to fight Mazinger Z.
The story of this chapter was loosely adapted into the sixteenth episode of Shin Mazinger Shougeki! Z-Hen.

Sixteen years after the completion of Getter Robo, Ken Ishikawa revived the series with Getter Robo Go. This series, and all after until Ishikawa's death, are done without Go Nagai(he is still credited as original creator).

Years after the events of Getter Robo/Shin Getter Robo, Hayato Jin is the leader of NISAR; a private owned research and weapons development organization based in Japan. He, and Professor Tachibana, have been developing various weapons and building up their forces to deal with a threat that started fifteen years ago: the mad scientist Rando. When Rando's forces begin their terrorist operations around the world, NISAR begins its search for exceptional soldiers to pilot their super weapon, the Getter Robo.
